Albanian rescuers save four stranded Polish tourists from dangerous canyon
Police and other emergency services rescued four Polish tourists after eight hours of intensive efforts, after they had become stranded in steep, life-threatening terrain in the Gjipe Canyon, Albania.
Police said that, following a report received around midday yesterday that four Polish tourists had fallen into a ravine while exploring the Gjipe Canyon, with one of them injured as a result, local police units immediately launched a search and rescue operation to locate and evacuate them due to the difficult terrain and the urgent need to assist the tourists.
According to the police, due to the extremely difficult terrain, the search and rescue operation involved local police services, alongside the DELTA Force, a helicopter from the Armed Forces, mountaineers from protected areas, firefighters, and a medical team, CE Report quotes ATA.
The Armed Forces helicopter was unable to reach the location where the tourists were stranded, and the operation continued on the ground with police officers, firefighters, and mountaineers.
After extensive searching and intensive efforts, the tourists were evacuated two by two, and around midnight the search and rescue operation was successfully completed.
The injured tourist received immediate medical assistance from the medical team and is out of life-threatening danger, while the other three tourists were evacuated in good health.
