Croatia expands scholarship programme for diaspora with 700 places
Croatia's Ministry of Demography and Immigration is offering up to 700 scholarships for learning the Croatian language and studying Croatia's cultural heritage during the 2026/2027 academic year.
This represents an increase of 200 scholarships compared with the 2025/2026 academic year. Applications are open until 6 July, CE Report quotes HINA.
Croatian emigrants, their descendants, and their spouses may apply for the scholarship, provided they are at least 18 years old and have completed secondary education.
Scholarships may be awarded for one or both semesters (winter and summer). The winter semester runs from the beginning of October 2026 until the end of January 2027, while the summer semester runs from the beginning of March 2027 until mid-June 2027.
The programme is delivered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, Osijek, and Pula, as well as the University of Zadar.
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees for the language course;
- Subsidised meal costs; and
- Accommodation support of €400 per month for housing in a student dormitory or private accommodation.
The scholarship does not cover travel expenses to Croatia or local public transport costs.
The public call for applications, including all eligibility requirements and application details, is available on the website of the Ministry of Demography and Immigration.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the official online application form available on the Ministry's website.
As part of the application, candidates must submit a motivation letter of 250 to 500 words.
