Bulgaria records increase in outbound and inbound travel in May
Bulgarian residents made 922,500 trips abroad in May 2026, up 5.5% from May 2025, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) on Friday.
The increase was recorded across all travel purposes. An annual growth of 5.5% was also reported for April.
The most popular destinations for Bulgarian travellers were Turkiye, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Germany, North Macedonia, Italy, Austria, Spain, and France, CE Report quotes BTA.
Visits by non-residents to Bulgaria totalled 1,021,800 in May, up 2.4%, year on year. Growth was registered across all travel purposes, reversing the 1.4% annual decline recorded for April.
The largest numbers of arrivals originated from Romania, Turkiye, Greece, Germany, Serbia, the UK, North Macedonia, Poland, Ukraine and Italy.
