Bulgarian pilot sets new Guinness world record

Bulgarian pilot Nikolay Kalaydzhiev set a new Guiness record in world aviation by becoming the first person to complete 1,021 take-offs and landings in 14 hours and 28 minutes, he wrote on his official Facebook page.

The achievement, which was recorded at the Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport, significantly surpassed the previous world record of 442 landings in 23 hours, set by an American pilot. Each of the 1,021 flights involved a full circuit followed by a precise touch-and-go landing, CE Report quotes BTA.

The successful attempt for a new world record of the five-time world record holder and professional military pilot and aerobatic competitor Nikolay Kalaydzhiev took place at Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport. The attempt was organised under the auspices of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality, with the active partnership of the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association and hosted by Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport.

Three months after his aviation achievement, the record was officially recognized by Guiness World Records.
