Madonna to perform at MTV VMAs for first time since 2003
CBS and MTV have announced that Madonna will open the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards with her first live performance at the ceremony in 23 years.
The awards show is scheduled to air on Monday, September 28, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The Queen of Pop will return to the VMA stage following the release of her chart-topping album “Confessions II,” released through Warner Records.
Madonna last performed at the VMAs more than two decades ago, when Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera joined her for what became the opening performance of the 2003 ceremony.
Madonna enters this year’s awards with a career-high 11 nominations and will seek to add to the 19 VMA awards she has already won.
Her nominations include Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year.
The 2026 ceremony marks the third time Madonna has led the VMA nominations. She received nine nominations in 1990 following the success of “Vogue” and another nine in 1998 for “Ray of Light” and “Frozen.”
Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the VMAs will air on September 28 at 9 pm on MTV Italia and will also be available via Sky and NOW. The ceremony will air later on Comedy Central and will subsequently be available on Paramount+.
