The Republic of Moldova is joining the European Week of Sport 2026, which will take place from September 19 to 27.

This year’s edition will bring together more than 3,500 participants, including children, pupils, students, young people, families, seniors, athletes, volunteers and representatives of public institutions. Events will be held in Chișinău, Călărași and Nisporeni, as well as at numerous institutions across the country, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission aimed at encouraging physical activity and promoting exercise as a natural part of everyday life.

“Under the European slogan #BeActive, we aim to convey a simple message: you do not have to be a professional athlete to be active. Walking, running, outdoor games, gymnastics and family sports activities can become accessible habits for everyone,” said Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.

The European Week of Sport will officially begin on September 19 at the Rîșcani Forest Park in the capital with the #BeChallenged Run, an event dedicated to running, outdoor activity and inclusion. Participants will be able to choose routes adapted to different age groups and fitness levels. The program will include interactive activities, inclusion-focused sessions, music and a prize raffle.

On September 20, around 200 children and young people will take part in a sports-orienteering and nature-exploration experience in the Codri area of Călărași, organized with the involvement of the Orienteering Federation of the Republic of Moldova.

On the same day, a green area in Călărași will become a space dedicated to family activities. Children, parents, young people and seniors will be invited to take part in relay races, ball games, volleyball, tug-of-war, agility and balance courses, parent-child competitions and team challenges.

On September 23 at 8:15 a.m., employees of the Government of the Republic of Moldova will take part in a joint gymnastics and physical exercise session in front of the Government building. At the same time, public institutions, authorities, universities, schools and other institutions across the country will be encouraged to organize their own morning gymnastics, mobility and exercise sessions.

On September 25, more than 10 educational institutions in Moldova will participate in European School Sport Day, a European initiative promoting physical activity in schools. Students will take part in relay races, team games, group exercises, mini-competitions and age-appropriate recreational activities.

The following day, September 26, Valea Trandafirilor Park will be transformed into a space dedicated to urban sports, demonstrations and interactive activities. The program will include roller sports, 3x3 basketball, football, badminton, boccia and other sports and recreational activities, including adapted activities for children and young people with special needs.

Elite athletes will give demonstrations and masterclasses, while participants will have the opportunity to interact with them, learn new techniques and try different sports.

The European Week of Sport 2026 will conclude on September 27 in Nisporeni with #BeInspired Art in Motion, an event combining sport, movement, music and art. Children ranging from preschool age to teenagers will participate in sports games, group exercises, creative activities and musical performances. One of the central activities of the day will be the creation of a #BeActive mural, which will remain on the grounds of the sports school.
