North Macedonian tennis star suffers first-round defeat in Ljubljana
North Macedonia’s most successful tennis player, Lina Gjorcheska, suffered a first-round defeat at the WTA 125 tournament in Ljubljana, which offers €100,000 in prize money.
She lost to Romania’s Miriam Bulgaru 2-1 in sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-2) after 2 hours and 15 minutes of play, CE Report informs via Tennis Federation of North Macedonia’s official website.
The Romanian player won the first set 6-4, with the only break of serve coming in the opening game and proving decisive. In the second set, Gjorcheska raced to a 5-0 lead and levelled the match at one set apiece after closing it out 6-1.
In the deciding set, Bulgaru took a 3-0 lead, but Gjorcheska fought back to make it 3-2. The Romanian then won the next three games to seal victory.
Gjorcheska’s next appearance will be at the tournament in Ankara next week.
