Kosovo's Vedat Muriqi emotional after scoring winner against Liverpool
Vedat Muriqi experienced special emotions after scoring in Fenerbahçe's remarkable 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League.
The Kosovo striker, who scored the decisive goal in the encounter, revealed that the evening had special significance for him, as his connection with the Turkish club dates back to his childhood, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Speaking to Turkish news agency DHA, Muriqi revealed that he watched Fenerbahçe's victory over Chelsea 18 years ago as a child in Kosovo, alongside his friends.
"18 years ago, when I was a child, I remember very well the match in which Fenerbahçe beat Chelsea 2-1. I watched that game in Kosovo with my friends. Now, 18 years later, I am extremely happy and proud to have scored the winning goal in the Champions League," Muriqi said.
He also spoke about the importance of the victory over Liverpool, expressing hope that the result could serve as a turning point for the team, which, according to him, has been going through a difficult period.
"I am very happy. I dedicate my goal to our fans. We are going through difficult times. We showed how great Fenerbahçe is. Everyone felt it, and we started the match incredibly well. We had a shot that came back off the post, conceded an unfortunate goal, but we managed to fight back. That is the greatness of Fenerbahçe. I sincerely thank everyone. I hope this victory will be a turning point for our season," the Kosovo striker said.
Muriqi emphasized that Fenerbahçe's main objective remains winning the Turkish league title, while in the Champions League, the team aims to go as far as possible.
