Moldova reviews sustainability of Costești sports complex
Representatives of Moldova’s Centre Regional Development Agency (ADR Centre) carried out the final post-implementation monitoring visit to the Tourist and Sports Complex in Costești village, Ialoveni district, on Thursday, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
The visit marked the end of the mandatory three-year period for ensuring the sustainability of the investment, which was implemented with 22.5 million lei in funding from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL).
Three years after the project was completed, the sports infrastructure continues to serve the local community and residents of partner localities. According to data presented during the monitoring visit, around 37,618 people in the region benefit from the infrastructure, while more than 10,000 young people aged between 10 and 30 have access to facilities for sports, recreation and personal development.
The complex regularly hosts training sessions and sporting competitions, providing facilities for local and regional teams in disciplines including football, volleyball, weightlifting and tennis.
It also attracts more than 700 tourists and participants in sporting competitions each year, contributing to the promotion of Costești and Moldova’s Centre Development Region.
The Tourist and Sports Complex is currently managed by the Costești Children and Youth Sports School. In 2026, the institution has an operating budget of 6.6 million lei, funded through earmarked transfers and its own revenues, and employs 35 staff.
ADR Centre said the complex’s infrastructure has continued to expand and improve since the original project was completed.
In 2025, a nighttime lighting system worth more than 1.6 million lei was put into operation, while an additional sanitary facility was also added.
During the summer of 2026, a modern tennis court and an 18-by-30-meter outdoor court for basketball and volleyball were constructed.
“The new investments have diversified the range of sporting activities and expanded opportunities for children, young people and the entire community to use the complex,” ADR Centre said.
Throughout the post-implementation monitoring period, the Costești Tourist and Sports Complex continued to host training sessions and competitions and was used by hundreds of children and young people for sports and recreational activities.
New cultural and sporting events are planned at local and regional levels, with a focus on promoting an active lifestyle, encouraging young people to participate in sports and making greater use of outdoor facilities, according to the agency.
The monitoring visit also identified several areas requiring further work, including the application of permanent markings on the running track and repairs to the administrative building.
Local authorities are expected to take the necessary measures to maintain the infrastructure and ensure the complex’s sustainable operation.
ADR Centre said it would continue cooperating with local authorities and relevant partners to make full use of the infrastructure and integrate the Costești Tourist and Sports Complex into regional sports and tourism networks.
