Cristiano Ronaldo seeks co-ownership of Al Nassr
Football star and the first football billionaire Cristiano Ronaldo wants to become a co-owner of Saudi club Al Nassr, the team for which the famous forward has played since 2023.
The Portuguese star has already invested €92 million in an investment fund that is planning to acquire the club.
Media reports say the Portugal captain is part of an investment consortium preparing a bid to acquire Al Nassr from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), CE Report quotes STA.
Media outlets, including Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola, have reported that the planned takeover involves a consortium of five investors. Under the financial plan, each partner would contribute around $100 million, or at least €92 million, raising initial capital of approximately $500 million, equivalent to €435.6 million.
Talks Still at an Early Stage
Alongside Ronaldo, the investor group includes Gerry Cardinale, founder of RedBird Capital Partners and owner of Italian club AC Milan, as well as three Saudi businessmen: Ibrahim Al Muhaidib, Mohamed Al Huraiji and Sharaf Al Hariri. The deal has not yet been officially confirmed or completed, as negotiations with the state-owned PIF are still at an early stage.
If the takeover is successful, Ronaldo would move from being the team's star player to also becoming an official co-owner of the club, for which he has played since early 2023. According to publicly available estimates, Ronaldo's net worth is around €1.2 billion. The 41-year-old Portuguese player has expanded his record football earnings through investments, including hotels and fitness centres, while also earning additional income from long-term sponsorship agreements.
Stakes in 30 Companies
Through his CR7 company, the footballer, who was born in Madeira, holds stakes in around 30 companies. In recent years, he has also invested in clothing stores, a ceramics factory and even a hair-transplant clinic. Ronaldo, who previously played for Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, acquired a stake in online media company LiveMode TV ahead of this year's World Cup. The platform broadcast some of the matches of the tournament, which was held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
