Architects Tommaso Fantini and Alberto Rossi of Milan-based studio VG13 presented their winning design for Maksimir Stadium at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, as part of the Mies programme, addressing a packed auditorium of fellow architects, professors, students and journalists.

The presentation was organised to clarify and ease alleged controversies surrounding the Maksimir Stadium project, allowing students and fellow architects to ask the Italian designers questions in person about potential concerns regarding the proposal, which has not been accepted by part of the public, CE Report quotes HINA.

"The Italian colleagues belong to a small and young European architectural scene that is deeply aware of changes in society at all levels and wants to take responsibility for the community. This is architecture that reflects concern for society," said Ana Boljar, President of the Zagreb Society of Architects.

It was explained that both architects are parties to ongoing legal proceedings, which prevents them from commenting on specific details until the proceedings are concluded. However, they are permitted to present and discuss their architectural design and answer questions.

Fantini said the presentation was a major moment for them, as it gave them the opportunity to showcase the stadium design at such a venue. He added that they had thoroughly studied the location, terrain, history, culture and architecture of Zagreb before developing the project.

"We took into account the proximity of Maksimir Forest and Park, ventilation issues, earthquake resistance and the ground conditions on which the stadium is built. We also fully addressed the challenges posed by rain and wind in a stadium with an open design," Fantini explained while presenting diagrams.

He also provided a detailed overview of the stadium's additional facilities and functions, including a hotel, as well as the underground parking solution and the planned arrangement of public transport stops.
