‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ becomes biggest US box-office hit

The blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has become the biggest box-office success in U.S. history, EFE news agency reports.

The film has topped the North American box-office charts with $936.773 million in ticket sales since its release on July 30, according to data published by industry magazine Variety, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

The movie surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which had remained at the top of the North American box-office rankings for more than a decade, with $936 million in ticket sales.

“From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm warmly congratulates (...) the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new U.S. box-office record and surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the production company founded by George Lucas said in a social media post.

Starring Tom Holland as the legendary Marvel superhero, the film was directed by Destin Cretton and currently ranks tenth among the highest-grossing films worldwide.
