Moldovan athletes win three gold medals in beach wrestling

Three athletes from Moldova won gold medals at the World University Championship in beach wrestling, held in Figueira da Foz, Portugal.

Moldova finished first in beach wrestling, which was included in the World University Championship program for the first time, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The three world champions are Ion Berghi, in the up to 70 kg category, and Gabriel Ojog, in the up to 80 kg category, both students at Moldova State University, as well as Traian Căpățînă, in the up to 90 kg category, a student at the Technical University of Moldova.

Upon returning home, the athletes were welcomed at the airport by family members, friends and colleagues.

“We congratulate our athletes on their achievements. The three gold medals and Moldova’s first-place finish demonstrate the talent, hard work and perseverance of our young people,” said Sergiu Gurin, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research.

The World University Championship was held in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, and brought together athletes from 31 countries.
