Bulgarian Olympic Committee President attends Asian Games in Japan

Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) President Vesela Lecheva is a guest at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, BOC said on Monday.

Asia’s biggest multi-sport event was opened by Japanese Emperor Naruhito on Saturday evening. The ceremony, also attended by Empress Masako and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry, marked the start of the 16-day event, CE Report quotes BTA.

Lecheva will remain in Japan until the end of the week, attending various competitions and holding a series of meetings. One of her first meetings was with World Boxing President Gennadiy Golovkin, who also arrived in Nagoya from Sofia, where he attended the European Boxing Championships. Golovkin praised the organization of the event.

Lecheva said the Asian Games have brought together more participants than the Paris Olympics.

"They are the most important test ahead of the Los Angeles Olympic Games. For us, as representatives of another continent, it is extremely important to see what our colleagues are doing," she added.
