"Flower Bridge: 35 Years Later"
A photo exhibition titled “Flowers on the Prut: 35 Years Since the First Flower Bridge” was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in Chisinau. Organized by MOLDPRES and Romania’s AGERPRES news agencies, the exhibition features documentary images by renowned photographers from both countries, marking a key moment in the shared history of Moldova and Romania, CE Report quotes Agerpres
On May 6, 1990, more than a million Romanians crossed the Prut River—then the border between Soviet Moldova and Romania—without documents for the first time since World War II. This peaceful demonstration of unity became known as the “Flower Bridge,” after people on both sides threw flowers into the river.
Moldovan Parliament President Igor Grosu called on the current generation to build a “stone bridge” of lasting ties. The exhibition, also shown in Ungheni and Bucharest, aims to bring these powerful archival photos to a wider audience.
Officials from both countries emphasized the lasting significance of the event, noting that today the Prut is crossed not only by people, but by ideas, energy, and culture.
