Most Moldovans with Romanian citizenship backed independent candidate Nicușor Dan in Romania’s presidential elections, granting him 52.63% of their votes (47,630). About 91,000 Moldovans voted across 64 polling stations during the three-day election period, setting a new turnout record, surpassing last year’s 81,000 voters.

Nationally, George Simion led with over 3.8 million votes (40.96%), followed by Nicușor Dan (20.99%) and Crin Antonescu (20.07%). Simion and Dan will face off in the runoff on May 18.
