UK withdraws remaining diplomats from Iran

The United Kingdom has withdrawn its remaining diplomatic staff from Iran as the conflict between the Islamic Republic and the United States continues to escalate, with a 12th consecutive night of airstrikes, dpa reports, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

"Due to the security situation, British staff have been temporarily withdrawn from Iran," the UK Foreign Office (FCDO) said in a statement posted on its website.

"Our embassy continues to operate remotely," the statement added.

The FCDO continues to advise against all travel to Iran, warning that British nationals and dual British-Iranian citizens face "a significant risk of arrest, questioning, or detention."

A similar measure was taken in February, before the United States and Israel began their bombing campaign against Iran.

Late Wednesday, the U.S. Central Command said the 12th night of strikes was aimed at "further degrading Iran's ability to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting regional waters."

Missiles struck targets near the western Iranian cities of Ahvaz, Ramshir, and Andimeshk, according to Iranian state media.

Meanwhile, Kuwait's military said on X that the country's air defense systems were "responding to attacks by hostile drones resulting from condemnable Iranian aggression."

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that for every ship attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, a bridge or power plant would be destroyed.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi responded that Iran would adopt an "eye for an eye" approach.

"Any aggression against Iran, including against our infrastructure, will be met with a strong and decisive response," Araghchi wrote on X on Wednesday.
