Pentagon denies ordering changes to starshield coverage in Ukraine
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the United States had not ordered any changes to Starshield satellite coverage in Ukraine.
He made the statement to reporters on Tuesday, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
At the same time, the Pentagon chief said Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, could make such decisions independently in accordance with its terms of service.
“We did not restrict anything. Ultimately, the terms of service have to be followed. Starlink can make those decisions independently, but from our perspective, nothing has changed. We did not give any instructions or anything like that,” Hegseth said, adding that "we wish the Ukrainians, obviously, success."
CBS News, citing its own sources, also reported that the decision to restrict Ukraine’s use of the Starlink satellite communications network was made by SpaceX owner Elon Musk.
Earlier, both Musk and President Donald Trump denied involvement in manipulating the Starshield network in Ukraine.
As reported, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed ballistic missile interceptors, early warning of Russian attacks, and the restoration of Starlink/Starshield services with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
