The inauguration of Greece’s national supercomputer, "DAEDALUS" is held on Monday at the Lavrio Technological and Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

DAEDALUS has a measured computing performance of 85.69 petaflops, ranking 31st worldwide in the TOP500 list and 23rd in the Green500 ranking of energy efficiency, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

It is housed in the new data centre in the historic building of the former Lavrio power station and represents a major national computing infrastructure.

The project is being implemented by the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET), with a total budget of € 58.9 million.

It will provide computing resources to universities, research centres, start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and public sector organisations, supporting scientific simulations, large-scale data processing and the training of artificial intelligence models.

It also serves as the computing backbone of Greece’s PHAROS AI Factory, which connects the infrastructure with tools and expertise to support the development of applications by the research and business communities.

The project is part of Greece’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, "Greece 2.0", and is funded with support from the European Union through NextGenerationEU and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).
