World’s heaviest pumpkin record broken twice in one week
The world record for the heaviest pumpkin has been broken for the second time in just seven days after a grower from Rhode Island produced a giant pumpkin weighing 1,431.5 kilograms.
Ron Wallace, 60, claimed the title with his enormous pumpkin, which was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the heaviest ever recorded, just weeks before Halloween, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The pumpkin was weighed at the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off in Rhode Island, only seven days after British twin brothers Ian and Stuart Paton from Hampshire had set a new world record.
The brothers became the first Britons to claim the title when their 1,296-kilogram pumpkin broke the previous record on October 3.
However, Wallace’s pumpkin surpassed their achievement, weighing 135.5 kilograms more than the previous record holder.
The enormous pumpkin is estimated to be large enough to make more than 3,000 pumpkin pies.
Wallace, who has been growing giant pumpkins for 35 years, received a prize of £2,650 ($3,500) for winning his local competition.
Although other contests have offered prizes worth approximately £53,000 ($70,000), the experienced grower said he preferred to celebrate his achievement surrounded by supporters from his hometown.
Before Wallace was officially declared the winner, the giant pumpkin was inspected by representatives of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, an organization overseeing giant pumpkin competitions.
According to Guinness World Records, this marks the third time Wallace has held the title for the world’s heaviest pumpkin.
He first set the record in 2006 with a pumpkin weighing 681.3 kilograms before reclaiming it in 2012 with a 911.27-kilogram specimen.
His latest achievement represents a significant increase over his previous records and adds another milestone to his decades-long experience growing giant pumpkins.
