Romania reports Russian drone strikes after two oil tankers catch fire
Two oil tankers caught fire overnight in Romanian territorial waters in the Black Sea after reportedly being struck by Russian drones that entered the country’s airspace, according to Romanian President Nicușor Dan, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Eight people have been reported missing following the incident, Sky News reported.
The two vessels were anchored in the Black Sea near the mouth of a canal connected to the Danube River when Romanian maritime authorities received the first emergency alert from the Wine Trader, an oil tanker sailing under the flag of San Marino.
A second tanker, the Yara J, registered under the flag of the Comoros, subsequently caught fire.
President Dan attributed the strikes to Russian drones that had entered Romanian airspace.
