Hollywood star Pedro Pascal said that learning to play the cello convincingly for Behemoth!, directed by Tony Gilroy, was the most difficult task of his career. The actor joked that he would rather film a brutal fight scene than learn to play the instrument again, Reuters reports.

Present at the film’s premiere on Tuesday at the London Film Festival, Pascal, who plays a talented cellist returning to Los Angeles after two decades of touring, said the role had made him more nervous than any previous project, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

“I’ve never been this scared,” he said. “I’ve been nervous about other roles and physical... and emotional demands, but nothing compared to this.”

Speaking about the challenge, the star joked: “I’d rather fight The Mountain in Game of Thrones than learn how to convincingly play the cello. I’d rather, I don’t know, be thrown off a cliff with Nicolas Cage than learn how to play the cello.”

Despite his fears, Pascal said that studying the cello had deepened his appreciation for an instrument he had long considered his favorite.

“As soon as I held the cello in my hands, I felt good,” he said.

Alexa Swinton, a 17-year-old actress known for her role in Thunderbolts, said working with Pascal had shown her that success and kindness go hand in hand. She also praised the actor’s grace, composure and politeness on set.

Beyond its family drama, Behemoth! also aims to bring the world of film music into the spotlight. Gilroy said that before filming began, even experienced members of the crew had never set foot in the studios where film scores are recorded.

The film’s theme resonates with the musicians involved in the production. Actress Eva Victor recalled telling her fellow cast members: “Finally, a movie about us.”

Screenwriter and director Tony Gilroy said the film highlights an essential but often overlooked part of the filmmaking process.

“I think this will bring attention to an important part of the film industry that we don’t talk about or... take for granted.”
