Greece, Türkiye discuss cooperation on migration management
A working meeting between Migration and Asylum Minister of Greece Thanos Plevris and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi was held in a particularly constructive atmosphere, according to a ministry announcement.
During the talks, the two sides confirmed the good level of cooperation between Greece and Türkiye in managing illegal migration, which the ministry said had produced tangible results on the ground, CE Report informs via the Ministry of Migration and Asylum of Greece's official website.
Particular reference was made to a 65% reduction in migration flows to the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, which the announcement said: “reflects the effectiveness of the individual measures and surveillance”.
The two ministers agreed on the need to further strengthen joint initiatives aimed at fully dismantling criminal migrant smuggling networks.
The announcement also said that there is mutual understanding of the complex migration pressures faced by both countries from third regions.
On the Greek side, Plevris reiterated the consistent need for all parties to fully comply with and implement what has been agreed, describing this as a fundamental prerequisite for maintaining the positive momentum.
