Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović thanked Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Richard Durbin for their longstanding and consistent support for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stressed that, during their terms in the United States Senate, they had made concrete contributions to protecting peace and stability, strengthening the partnership between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States, and preserving Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, CE Report quotes FENA.

“Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Richard Durbin belong to the circle of proven friends of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At important moments for our country, they acted concretely and on principle in the U.S. Senate. Bosnia and Herzegovina values and remembers such friends,” Dr. Bećirović said.

Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr. Bećirović particularly thanked Senator Shaheen for her longstanding personal commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stressed that over the years she had been one of the strong voices of support for the country in the U.S. Senate, consistently backing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European and Euro-Atlantic future, as well as the preservation of its constitutional order.

Dr. Bećirović also highlighted the significance of the recent joint reaction by Senators Shaheen and Durbin regarding pressure on employees and associates of the Srebrenica Memorial Center. He said that their clear message on the need to protect the Memorial Center, uphold the rule of law and prevent intimidation of those preserving the truth about the genocide represented another confirmation of their principled support for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina stressed that continued strong U.S. engagement is of particular importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said that U.S. support is important for protecting the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order, as well as for advancing Bosnia and Herzegovina toward full membership in NATO and the EU.

Dr. Bećirović also stressed the importance of preserving the full capacity and continuity of the Office of the High Representative (OHR). He emphasized that, at a time of serious geopolitical and security challenges, the international community must retain effective instruments for preserving peace and implementing the Dayton Peace Agreement.
