Moldova will receive a roadmap outlining the next steps in its European Union accession process on October 28.

The document will be presented by the European Commission alongside its annual EU enlargement reports. It will set out indicative stages, timelines and concrete objectives for the most advanced candidate countries, including Moldova, Montenegro, Albania and Ukraine, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, said the roadmap will include an indicative timetable for completing accession negotiations.

She said the document would provide greater predictability for Moldova as it moves through the negotiations and would place the country among the leading candidates in the accession process.

“This is important because it places us in a group of leading countries in the negotiation process,” Gherasimov said, adding that the roadmap would include specific deliverables and an estimated timetable for concluding accession negotiations.

Gherasimov also welcomed a package of measures on EU enlargement policy announced by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos. She said the proposals showed that the EU was preparing for future enlargement and considering how its institutions and policies could adapt to the arrival of new members.

The Moldovan official noted that preparations for enlargement had already been discussed, while the European Commission’s proposals are now being considered by EU leaders, who will ultimately decide on the future configuration of the bloc.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said Moldova had reached an advanced stage in its accession process. He also warned that political messaging and disinformation campaigns could intensify as the country moves closer to its European integration objectives.

Tofan called for continued efforts to advance the accession process despite attempts to destabilize the country or hinder its European path.

The roadmap is expected to give Moldova clearer milestones and deadlines as it works toward the next stages of EU accession negotiations.
