Greece aims to shape EU budget priorities ahead of 2028-2034
Greece supports an ambitious European budget for the benefit of EU citizens, Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Tasos Chatzivasileiou said on Monday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
Referring to the ongoing negotiations on the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034, Chatzivasileiou said Greece is playing a leading role in the talks, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
He added that the aim is to lay the necessary groundwork so that EU leaders can discuss the issue at the upcoming European Council meetings.
Regarding Greece’s EU Presidency in the second half of 2027, the deputy foreign minister stressed that it represents a major opportunity for the country to leave its own mark on the European project.
Commenting on the rise of far-right and other extremist parties across Europe, he said Europe and democratic political forces must heed the messages being sent by voters and provide convincing answers to the problems affecting every European citizen.
Chatzivasileiou expressed optimism about the outcome of the next national elections in 2027, saying that securing an outright parliamentary majority is an achievable goal and one that New Democracy will pursue.
