The US House of Representatives narrowly passed a bill to pave the way for a major increase in military spending.

The bill authorizes a record $1.15 trillion military funding package in 2027. For the current financial year 2026, around $900 billion is allocated for defence, CE Report quotes MIA.

It includes a pay rise of 5% to 7% for military members, an increase in active-duty force size and would designate the Department of Defense as the Department of War.

The bill, which passed in a 216-212 vote, will now go to the Senate for a second vote before arriving at US President Donald Trump's desk.

Trump announced at the start of the year that he planned a significant increase in defence spending.
