Sorana Cirstea (Romania) and Anna Kalinskaya (Russia) captured the doubles crown at the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid on Sunday, defeating Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens 6-7 (10), 6-2, 12-10 in a tense final lasting 2 hours and 14 minutes, CE Report quotes Agerpres

After narrowly losing the first set tiebreak despite leading 5-3, Cirstea and Kalinskaya stormed through the second set and edged a dramatic super tiebreak, saving a match point at 9-10 before clinching victory with three straight points.

The duo earned €400,560 and 1,000 WTA points. It marks Cirstea’s sixth career doubles title and her biggest to date.
