Moldova, Romania review next steps in EU integration process
Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, met with Romania's Ambassador to Moldova, Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, to discuss the country's European integration priorities for the second half of the year.
According to Gherasimov, the meeting focused on the next steps in Moldova's European integration process and the close cooperation between Moldova and Romania in advancing the country's EU accession efforts, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
"I was pleased to meet again today with Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, Romania's Ambassador to Chișinău, and discuss the priorities on the European agenda for the second half of this year. We thank Romania for all its support and for its contribution to the European path of the Republic of Moldova," Gherasimov said.
Romania remains Moldova's strongest supporter in its European integration process. Bucharest has consistently backed Moldova's bid for European Union membership, including its successful application for EU candidate status in June 2022 and the European Council's December 2023 decision to open accession negotiations.
Romania also provides technical expertise to Moldovan authorities in aligning national legislation with the EU acquis, supports the preparation of institutions involved in the accession negotiations, and advocates for Moldova's European aspirations within EU institutions.
In addition, Romania supports energy interconnection and infrastructure projects, as well as development programs financed through European funds, helping bring Moldova closer to European Union standards.
