Ukraine receives 3.47 billion euros EU defense loan
Ukraine’s state budget has received €3.47 billion from the European Union under the Ukraine Support Loan. The funds will be directed to defense and other priority needs.
Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi announced the transfer on Telegram, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
“We have received another tranche of €3.47 billion from the EU under the Ukraine Support Loan. These funds will strengthen defense and finance urgent needs,” the statement said.
According to the European Commission’s press service, €3.47 billion is disbursed to Ukraine, under the defense window of the €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan. The funding is provided in response to Ukraine's urgent military needs, as it continues to require capability support to defend itself against Russia's war of aggression.
“Today, we are investing an additional €3.47 billion to help protect Ukraine's skies. With this new disbursement under our €90 billion loan package, we are helping Ukraine defend its people. We are also bringing our defence industries closer together, combining Europe's industrial scale with Ukraine's unmatched innovation. This is our new Drone Deal taking shape. And let this new support send a clear message: every Russian strike strengthens Ukraine's determination to be free and our determination to stand with Ukraine, for as long as it takes,” said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
This disbursement covers an additional tranche of the first product schedule on drone procurement. It also includes funding for additional drones, including long-range jet-powered drones, missiles, and Gripen fighter jets. The goal is to help Ukraine quickly secure critical equipment it needs.
On June 25, the European Commission allocated €3.2 billion to Ukraine under the targeted macro‑financial assistance (MFA) program, followed by two further payments: €3.9 billion on June 30 and €1.1 billion on July 15.
In 2026 alone, €28.3 billion will be provided to strengthen Ukraine’s defense‑industrial capacity. The allocation for 2026 is expected to be finalized by September, with disbursements made by year‑end.
The Ukraine Support Loan is composed of €60 billion to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities and defence industrial capacity, as well as €30 billion in budget support to help keep the state functioning, maintain essential public services and strengthen economic resilience.
On April 23, the EU Council adopted an implementation decision setting out assistance for Ukraine in 2026. It provides up to €45 billion, including €16.7 billion in budgetary support and €28.3 billion for defense‑industrial capacity.
The budgetary support component is split equally between an addition to the Ukraine Facility and a new MFA operation — €8.35 billion each. On June 25, the Commission disbursed the first MFA tranche of €3.2 billion.
Since the start of Russia’s aggression, the EU and its Member States have provided Ukraine with more than €220 billion in total support, including €3.8 billion from from the proceeds of immobilised Russian assets.
