NBA star Luka Dončić plans four-day Lakers minicamp in Slovenia

Slovenian NBA star Luka Dončić is increasingly taking over the leadership role in the Los Angeles Lakers off the court, too.

This August he will host his teammates at a four-day minicamp in Slovenia in what will be a move aimed at building team chemistry while promoting what the country has to offer, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

According to ESPN, the itinerary features workouts, golf, sightseeing in Ljubljana, and team-building activities.

The gathering will take place ahead of the team's training camp. The primary aim of the trip is said to be to foster chemistry within a squad that has undergone significant changes this year.

The Lakers have been building around Dončić this offseason with new additions to the roster including Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes and Matisse Thybulle. Reportedly, the franchise is taking a long-term approach in targeting the 2027-2028 NBA title window.

As reported by ESPN's Dave McMenamin, the trip to Slovenia serves as yet another indication that, following the departure of LeBron James, Dončić has fully embraced his role as the focal point of a franchise now built around him and Austin Reaves.

This will not be the first time Dončić has organised such a team-bonding event. In October 2025, he footed the bill for a team-building day at the Porsche Experience Center in Southern California, where he and his teammates took to the track to test-drive various cars. Generally speaking, franchise leaders are known to host such events.

Since being traded to the Lakers in a shock move in 2025, Dončić has been named to the All-NBA First Team for the sixth time in his career. An injury prevented him from appearing in the playoffs this season, but the 27-year-old won the scoring title, averaging 33.5 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds.
