A Tricolor flag was hoisted atop one of the over 100 pillars of the new 400 kV Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line to mark Moldova's State Flag Day. The line, currently over 60% complete, is expected to be finished by the end of 2025 and will play a key role in securing Moldova’s energy independence, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu called the project “the Country's Energy Independence Line,” highlighting its ability to bypass the Transnistrian region and eliminate Russian leverage over the nation’s electricity supply. With a capacity of 630 MVA, the line will cover up to half of Moldova’s peak energy demand.

Funded by the World Bank Group, the €61 million project began in April 2024 and is seen as a vital step toward Moldova's integration into the European energy market.
