Hydroelectric production rises sharply in Kosovo
Kosovo recorded a significant increase in electricity generation from hydropower plants in May 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier.
According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), gross electricity production from hydropower plants reached 49.22 GWh in May 2026, representing an increase of 51.38 percent compared with May 2025, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The agency reported that the total gross electricity available amounted to 484.02 GWh, down 0.41 percent from the same month of the previous year. Meanwhile, electricity consumption reached 398.66 GWh, an increase of 8.88 percent compared with May 2025.
KAS also noted that alternative electricity sources accounted for 22.20 percent of total electricity consumption during the month.
Electricity imports totaled 422.31 GWh in May 2026, while electricity exports amounted to 205.27 GWh, including electricity transmitted through the national grid.
At the same time, coal production in May 2026 stood at approximately 301,303 metric tons, representing a 37.25 percent decline compared with the same month last year.
