Rafael Leao completes move to Galatasaray
Rafael Leao has completed his transfer from AC Milan to Galatasaray, beginning a new chapter in his career in Turkish football.
Galatasaray announced that it paid €38 million for the Portuguese forward, who has signed a four-year contract worth €10 million per season, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
The 27-year-old had also attracted interest from Aston Villa but ultimately chose the Turkish champions, who have also qualified for the Champions League.
Leao leaves Milan after seven years at the club. He joined from Lille in 2019 for €49.5 million and made 291 appearances during his time at San Siro, scoring 80 goals.
The Portuguese international was one of Milan’s key players during their Serie A title-winning campaign in the 2021/22 season. However, his form had declined in recent years, raising questions over his long-term future at the club.
“It is a difficult moment to say goodbye to my teammates after seven years,” Leao said.
At Galatasaray, Leao will become part of a powerful attacking lineup, playing alongside Nigerian star Victor Osimhen and former Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sané.
The agreement between the clubs also includes a clause under which Milan will receive 20% of the profit from any future transfer of Leao.
The Portuguese forward’s arrival represents another major move by Galatasaray as the club seeks to strengthen its squad for the new season, particularly for European competitions.
