Ceferin will not challenge Infantino in FIFA election
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has ruled out running against FIFA President Gianni Infantino in next year's FIFA presidential election, saying he is happy with his role at UEFA and has no interest in leading world football's governing body.
Speaking on the British podcast The Rest is Politics, Čeferin said his credibility as a critic of Infantino is stronger because he has no personal interest in succeeding him. He also suggested that Infantino could face another candidate if he seeks re-election at the FIFA Congress in March 2027, CE Report quotes STA.
The comments come amid growing pressure on Infantino, with UEFA and other football bodies questioning his leadership and the direction of FIFA. Six Nordic football federations have also publicly withdrawn their confidence in the FIFA president.
