Kosovo celebrates historic basketball win
On August 19, 2017, Kosovo achieved a remarkable success in basketball.
Kosovo’s national basketball team advanced from the pre-qualifying round for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China after defeating Estonia 75–69.
The Dardanians were drawn in a group with Estonia and Macedonia, finishing second behind Estonia and ahead of Macedonia, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
It was a major achievement, as it was the first time Kosovo had participated in the World Cup pre-qualifiers. The team secured a place in the next stage, where 32 countries competed.
Kosovo had been admitted to FIBA only two years earlier, in 2015. Despite this, the Kosovo basketball players showed great commitment, produced impressive performances and achieved very positive results.
The final pre-qualification game against Estonia was full of emotion and drama. The match, played in Pristina in an electric atmosphere, ended with a victory for the Dardanians. Kosovo had been trailing in the first half but produced a strong comeback after the break to secure the win and advance to the next round.
