Carlos Sainz will remain with Williams in Formula 1 after the Spanish driver signed a multi-year contract extension, ending speculation about his future.

Williams confirmed the agreement just 24 hours after announcing that Sainz’s teammate, Alex Albon, would also remain with the team for the 2027 season, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Sainz, 31, is having a difficult season. The four-time Grand Prix winner has failed to score points in his last six races, while Williams has endured a disappointing start to the championship.

Nevertheless, the former Ferrari and McLaren driver has chosen to continue believing in the Williams project.

“I am very happy to continue my journey with the Williams family. I truly believe in the people at this team and in the work being done behind the scenes. We have everything we need to turn the situation in our favor,” Sainz said.

Team principal James Vowles described Sainz as an important leader for the team and said his continued commitment to the project was a positive signal for the future.

Williams is currently undergoing a rebuilding process and has now secured the future of both of its main drivers. With Sainz and Albon, the British team hopes to gradually return to the fight for stronger results in Formula 1.
