Bulgaria wins six medals and olympic quota in frankfurt
Bulgarian gymnasts proved they are among the world's leading forces in rhythmic gymnastics by winning one title, six medals overall (one gold, three silver and two bronze), and an Olympic quota for Los Angeles 2028 at the 42nd World Championships in Frankfurt.
Stiliana Nikolova finished the championships with four medals: gold in the clubs final, silver in the ribbon final, silver in the all-around, securing the country a quota for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and silver in the team competition, CE Report quotes BTA.
Nikolova became world champion in the clubs final. This was Bulgaria's first gold medal in an individual apparatus final in 25 years, since Simona Peycheva's title in Madrid in 2001. Nikolova finished seventh in the hoop final.
In the group finals, Rachel Stoyanov, Margarita Vasileva, Magdalina Minevska, Magdalena Valkova, Raya Bozhilova and Emilia Obretenova won two bronze medals - in the five balls and the three hoops/two pairs of clubs events.
In the medal standings, Bulgaria finished third with six medals - one gold, three silver and two bronze. Germany topped the standings with four medals (three gold and one bronze), followed by Brazil with three (two gold and one bronze).
A total of nine countries won medals at the championships, out of 73 nations that competed in Frankfurt.
