Russell Westbrook retires after 18 NBA seasons

Russell Westbrook has announced his retirement from basketball, bringing an end to an extraordinary career after 18 seasons in the NBA.

The 37-year-old announced his decision through a video featuring highlights from his career. Westbrook played from 2008 to 2026, with the most successful period of his career coming with the Oklahoma City Thunder, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Westbrook won the NBA MVP award in the 2016/17 season, was a nine-time All-Star and a nine-time All-NBA selection. He also won the scoring title twice and led the NBA in assists three times.

One of his most remarkable achievements was becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double over an entire season, a feat he repeated four times within five years.

Westbrook also played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings during his career.

“Sometimes you don’t even realize when you’ve already seen the end. You had to be there. And now it’s over,” Westbrook wrote.
