Mexican forward Armando González has boarded a flight to Greece after agreeing to join Olympiacos.

The 23-year-old striker, who has been playing for Chivas, is travelling to Athens to finalize his move to the Greek club. Recent reports indicate that the transfer is worth around €9 million for 70 percent of his rights, with Chivas retaining a 30 percent stake in a future sale, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

González reportedly described the move to Olympiacos as a “challenge” in comments to Mexican media before his departure, while expressing his hope of returning to Chivas one day.

The Mexican forward is expected to replace Mehdi Taremi in Olympiacos’ squad, as the Iranian striker is no longer part of José Luis Mendilibar’s plans. Taremi has reportedly reached an agreement with UAE club Al Wasl, with an official announcement expected soon.

González’s move represents his first step into European football after his breakthrough with Chivas. The transfer has been described by Mexican media as a deal worth around $12 million for 80 percent of his economic rights, although figures reported by different outlets vary.
