Tom Cruise returns as Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder sequel
Nearly 40 years after the original film, Tom Cruise will return as famous NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in the sequel “Days of Thunder 2,” with Anne Hathaway joining the cast.
It will mark the first time that “The Devil Wears Prada” actress and the “Mission: Impossible” star have worked together on a film, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The news was announced on social media with an image of the two stars together at Daytona International Speedway, showing Cruise, 64, and Hathaway, 43, leaning against a green race car.
In the 1990 film directed by Tony Scott, Nicole Kidman played the female lead, Claire Lewicki. “Days of Thunder” was also the first of three films Cruise and his former wife Kidman made together, followed by “Far and Away” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”
The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2028. Jonathan Levine will direct, while Hathaway will play a racing team owner and engineer. No further details about the plot have yet been revealed.
The film will be made for IMAX and will also be available in immersive formats including Dolby Cinema and 4DX.
