Romanian singer Smiley releases song rediscovered after 27 years
Romanian singer Smiley released a new version of his song Melancolie on Thursday, 27 years after it was originally written and recorded on an audio cassette in 1999.
According to a statement from HaHaHa Production sent to AGERPRES, the rediscovered track will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming Romanian crime comedy Vacanță All Inclusive, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
Smiley explained that he came across the original recording while searching through old materials at his studio.
“I was looking through the studio’s storage room and found several audio cassettes, including one labeled ‘demo99,’” the singer said.
“I was overwhelmed by nostalgia, longing and a wonderful feeling. It really felt like discovering a treasure that came with its own journey through time,” he added.
After listening to the recording, Smiley decided to remake the song and include it in the film’s soundtrack.
“I listened to it, overwhelmed and pleasantly surprised, reworked it and took it straight into Vacanță All Inclusive, so the film would have everything: stunts, comedy and a little melancholy too,” he said.
Music video features scenes from upcoming comedy
Produced by HaHaHa Production, Melancolie features music and lyrics written by Smiley and Dorian Micu.
The track was produced and mixed by Feenom and Roland Kiss, with mastering handled by Erwin Maas.
The accompanying music video features Smiley and Romanian actor Pavel Bartoș portraying their characters from Vacanță All Inclusive.
The video also offers audiences a first look at several scenes from the upcoming crime comedy.
Directed by Radu Bărbulescu, the film stars Smiley and Pavel Bartoș in the leading roles and is scheduled to open in Romanian cinemas on November 6, with preview screenings beginning on November 2.
