North Macedonia seeks deeper energy partnership with Sweden

North Macedonia's Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Božinovska, held a working meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to North Macedonia, H.E. Ola Sölström.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their excellent bilateral cooperation and shared commitment to further strengthening ties, with particular emphasis on energy, infrastructure projects and the green transition, CE Report informs via the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia's official website.

The discussions focused on opportunities to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy efficiency, the modernization of energy infrastructure and the development of smart energy solutions—areas in which Sweden is recognized as one of Europe's leading countries.

Minister Božinovska stressed that the government is firmly committed to modernizing North Macedonia's energy system, increasing the share of renewable energy sources and building a sustainable and competitive energy sector.

"Our goal is a modern, efficient and sustainable energy system that will ensure energy security for citizens and create a favorable environment for new investments. Swedish expertise, experience and technological innovation represent significant potential for joint projects and partnerships that will contribute to North Macedonia's faster energy transformation," Božinovska said.

Ambassador Ola Sölström reaffirmed Sweden's readiness to continue supporting North Macedonia in its reform processes. He noted that many Swedish companies are closely monitoring developments in the country's energy sector and recognize strong potential for new investments and broader economic cooperation.

He said there are real opportunities to expand the presence of Swedish companies in the North Macedonian market, particularly through projects related to energy efficiency, modern infrastructure and innovative green technologies.

The ambassador also reiterated that Sweden remains a strong friend and sincere supporter of North Macedonia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying bilateral cooperation and developing concrete partnerships in sustainable energy, infrastructure development and the implementation of energy reforms, which are expected to contribute to economic growth, greater energy security and an accelerated green transition.
