Rosalía faces backlash in Argentina over World Cup post

Spanish pop star Rosalía is facing backlash in Argentina after sharing a social media post about Argentina's defeat in the FIFA World Cup final, sparking outrage just days before her scheduled concerts in Buenos Aires.

The controversy began after Rosalía shared a TikTok video by American-Lebanese actress Mia Khalifa, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

Khalifa celebrated Spain's victory with the caption: "What does life sound like now that the 'perlas' have lost?", accompanied by Rosalía's song "La Perla."

In Spanish slang, the word perla refers to troublemakers or difficult, unruly people. Many Argentinians interpreted the post as an insult directed at their national team and its supporters.

After deleting the post, Rosalía issued an apology on Instagram on Wednesday, explaining that she had shared the video without fully understanding "what it was saying."

"I have nothing but love for Argentina," she wrote.

Just over a week before the first of her four sold-out Lux Tour concerts in Buenos Aires, some social media users have begun calling for a boycott of the singer.

Among the comments under Rosalía's latest post are messages such as: "What if we asked for refunds for our tickets?", "I returned the tickets I bought for my nieces. They decided on their own not to come see you... You have deeply disappointed your Argentine fans," and repeated calls for ticket refunds.
