Bulgaria’s ancient ruins inspire Valdobrev’s acoustic project

Musician Stefan Valdobrev and his band The Usual Suspects recorded a new performance amid the ruins of the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica as part of Valdobrev’s project The Acoustics of Bulgaria during which the band is collecting sounds and inspiration from various iconic places in the country to prepare its upcoming album.

During the recording, Petrich Mayor Dimitar Bruchkov congratulated Valdobrev and his band on taking part in the project and thanked them for choosing Heraclea Sintica as one of the featured locations in the music series, CE Report quotes BTA.

Valdobrev shared that the concept had been in development for almost seven years now. Inspired by his extensive travels around Bulgaria following the release of Po-poleka, one of their signature songs, he envisioned recording future music not in a studio in Sofia but in distinctive locations across the country to capture their authentic atmosphere and sound. The project, which includes 26 emblematic Bulgarian sites, seeks to preserve the energy and character of each place within the music.

The recording in Heraclea Sintica added a new highlight to the Acoustics of Bulgaria series, which already features performances from Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Sozopol, and other historic sites. The project promotes Bulgaria’s cultural heritage by showing how live music can revive ancient spaces and preserve their unique acoustics.
