Moldova, China discuss boosting trade and investment

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi today held a meeting with the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Chișinău, Dong Zhihua.

The two officials highlighted opportunities to increase Moldovan exports to the Chinese market, particularly wines and agri-food products, as well as interest in attracting investment and strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy efficiency, agriculture, infrastructure, and education, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for deepening cooperation, with an emphasis on political and diplomatic dialogue, including preparations for the next round of interministerial political consultations, as well as on the development of economic and sectoral cooperation.

Moldova’s top diplomat reaffirmed the openness of the Moldovan authorities to continue dialogue and deepen relations of friendship and cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

“I had a productive meeting with the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova, Dong Zhihua. I welcomed her to Chișinău and wished her every success in carrying out her mandate. We aim to develop relations with the People’s Republic of China through an open, results-oriented dialogue and by making full use of the potential for cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of both countries,” Mihai Popșoi said.

As reported by CE Report, on January 30, 2026, Moldova and the People’s Republic of China will mark 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
