World Bank Group explains Philanthropy Hub’s role in global development - EXCLUSIVE

Business

The Philanthropy Hub connects philanthropic organizations with governments, development institutions, businesses, networks, researchers, and practitioners to pursue shared goals, accelerate impact, and open opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach. Different partners bring different advantages – regardless of size. Philanthropy can support early innovation, take risks, build local capacity, and help crowd in larger investments. Governments and development institutions bring policy reach, country relationships, technical knowledge, and long-term financing. Together, these capabilities can move effective approaches from pilot to scale. The Hub serves as a front door for philanthropy through the following website (philanthropy.worldbank.org). The Hub team acts as sherpas, helping foundations of all sizes connect with the World Bank Group.

This was said by the source at the World Bank Group in an exclusive interview with CE Report.

The World Bank Group has evolved its approach to philanthropy, moving beyond transactional, project-by-project grants toward strategic, mission-driven partnerships. This new approach focuses on co-creating missions together, deploying capital strategically where it can provide the greatest impact, and combining philanthropic resources with other sources of capital to expand reach. The Hub will work to match capital with opportunity – bringing together like-minded partners and connecting causes and opportunities with capital. World Bank Group initiatives or “missions” like Mission 300 (which connects 300 million people to energy access by 2030), Water Forward (improves water security for 400 million people by 2030), and Health Works (aims to reach 1.5 billion people with quality, affordable health care by 2030) unites MDBs, governments, and partners behind single, ambitious goals. Ultimately, the Hub works to identify shared goals and turn those into measurable results.

The World Bank Group is strengthening how it views, measures, and delivers on development results. By leveraging data, analytics, and stakeholder engagement, we help align projects and programs with evidence-based outcomes to enhance impact. The World Bank Group's targets (including large-scale missions that philanthropy support such as Mission 300 and Health Works) are defined and tracked using World Bank Group Scorecard indicators, which now has 22 items instead of 150, and which allows users to explore results across regions, countries, and projects.

The Hub anchors philanthropy in country priorities. Each country has a single country partnership framework, developed by the government in dialogue with the World Bank Group. This sets out key priorities within a defined timeframe. Within that framework, foundations can help test and de-risk new approaches, and scale what works. The Hub helps philanthropic organizations find the right opportunities for their funding, ideas, networks, and expertise. It connects partners with relevant country needs, evidence, specialists, and financing options, making it easier to build focused, long-term partnerships with the potential to grow.

Philanthropies can learn about The World Bank Group's mission-led approach to development, priorities, and shared goals on The World Bank Group's website, where they can also contact The World Bank Group to learn more about the Hub and how to get involved.
