North Macedonia records among Europe’s lowest food and beverage prices, Mickoski says
Eurostat data show that North Macedonia has among the lowest food and beverage prices in the region, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in response to a journalist’s question about data showing that food and non-alcoholic beverage prices in the country are 25 percent below the average for 36 European countries.
Mickoski, who attended the launch of new street in Chiflik village in the Cheshinovo – Obleshevo municipality, said that, based on the price level index, where 100 represents the reference value, the country is among those with the lowest prices in the region, CE Report quotes MIA.
“Eurostat has published data based on a reference value of 100, showing that our country has the lowest prices for beverages and food, by far the lowest in the region. This debunks the claims made in recent months by those who have been spreading lies and disinformation, particularly certain trade unionists who are effectively coalition partners of the opposition. This puts an end to their claims. Of course, not all problems have been resolved and many still need to be addressed, because we cannot fix in two years everything that has been happening for more than 30 years. However, many problems have been resolved or are in the process of being addressed,” Mickoski said.
He added that the government had taken steps to stabilise inflation, noting that the country recorded by far the lowest inflation rate in the region in the third quarter and possibly even in Europe.
“They used to claim that inflation was imported when it was twice the EU average. Today, with inflation 25 to 30 percent below the EU rate, they have fallen silent and are once again resorting to lies and fabrications to cause political damage. But they are mistaken. The results in Brvenica show that they cannot underestimate the people. They think the public has forgotten their seven years in power, when they plundered, sold off and destroyed Macedonia. Now, as we try to recover what was sold off and destroyed, they are once again trying to undermine us. But they are powerless because the people stand with the government and its solutions,” Mickoski said.
