Catherine Zeta-Jones reflects on what modern Hollywood has gained, lost

Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has expressed nostalgia for an earlier era of the film industry, when audiences knew far less about the private lives of movie stars.

The Wednesday actress shared her thoughts on what she likes and dislikes about modern Hollywood during an interview with Awards Buzz, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Among her biggest concerns is the overwhelming amount of information now available about celebrities through social media.

“There was something wonderful about not knowing everything about actors — who they woke up with in the morning, what they ate, where they shopped, what they wore,” Zeta-Jones said.

Although she acknowledged that social media has brought significant changes to the entertainment industry, the actress suggested that the constant exposure of celebrities’ personal lives has gone too far.

“There’s too much information. I don’t need to know whether someone got divorced or had an affair with somebody else. I don’t want to know these things,” she said.

For Zeta-Jones, part of the appeal of cinema lies in the mystery surrounding the actors and characters audiences watch on screen.

“It’s about the mystery surrounding movies, television actors and the people you go to the cinema to watch for two and a half or three hours. I don’t need all that information,” she explained.

Zeta-Jones welcomes growing opportunities for women in Hollywood

Despite her concerns about celebrity culture, Zeta-Jones also highlighted positive developments in the entertainment industry, particularly the increasing influence of women.

She welcomed the growing number of opportunities available to female performers, including actresses from her own generation.

According to Zeta-Jones, these changes are creating more diverse content and allowing experienced actresses to take on interesting new projects.

“That translates into content. It means actors are finding work, and people like me, along with a generation of women my age, are coming across really interesting projects and getting the opportunity to make them,” she said.

“I really like that,” the actress added.
