Zelensky appoints military counterintelligence head
President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Serhiy Hunkovsky as head of the Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The relevant decree No. 269/2026, dated March 25, has been published on the President’s website, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
“To appoint Serhii Hunkovsky as head of the Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine,” the document states.
In addition, by Decree No. 270/2026, the President appointed Viktor Zayets as head of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SSU.

As reported, on January 5, Zelensky instructed Yevhen Khmara to temporarily perform the duties of SBU Chairman.
March 25 is celebrated in Ukraine as SSU Day—the day the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law “On the Security Service of Ukraine” (dated March 25, 1992). The holiday was established by a decree of President Leonid Kuchma on March 22, 2001.
